Photo Journal: Tiger Mountain’s NOTG and Predator
4/1/2022
For so long, I have been scared to bring my camera with me biking. The damp PNW woods filled with mud, slippery roots and rocks never seemed like a good place to bring expensive glass lenses and a camera filled with tiny electrical components.
But recently I’ve had a change in heart. I bought my camera to use daily, to document my experiences, and to grow my artistic muscles. The best camera is the one you have on you, and simply put, I was missing a lot of great shots by leaving it at home.
So yesterday when I left work early to ride Tiger Mountain with some friends, the camera came with me.
We met in the parking lot and elected for a tried and true Tiger route. Up Master Link, down NOTG, back up the fire road, and down Predator is the best bang for your buck if you are looking for technical riding. NOTG is flat and chunky with a few unique features. Predator is steeper and faster with slippery rolls linked by carefully groomed berms.
I never want to be the guy that wastes people’s time trying to get the perfect shot. Instead, I use my camera when there is a pause in the action, or I can set myself up for a picture without killing the mood. The first chance I saw was when we stopped to session the fallen down tree on NOTG.
When we rode Predator, I chose to get a head start and stop at a few sections along the way. I didn’t tell the others where I would be stopping. People act differently around a camera, and I wanted these shots to be as candid and real to life as possible.
A few more photos are below. Overall it was a great day riding bikes, and I am glad I had my camera there to document it.
